The SteelEye Protection Suite for Citrix XenServer delivers Data Replication, High Availability clustering, and XenServer-specific optimizations to deliver complete end-to-end XenServer protection. With SteelEye, your XenServer environment is completely protected with built-in data replication for XenServer Virtual Machines (VMs), fast and automatic failure detection and recovery of both physical and virtual servers, comprehensive monitoring and recovery for individual applications and services within Linux and Windows guest OSes and complete flexibility in building failover configurations from a mixture of physical and virtual machines. It provides the ultimate in protection for business-critical functions running within XenServer environments.
SteelEye Data Replication runs within the XenServer Console OS (Dom 0) to provide highly optimized replication of XenServer VMs across any LAN or WAN network connection. The entire VM is replicated in real-time to a target server where it is available to be brought in service as needed for business continuity.
With built-in compression and a change-only replication model, SteelEye Data Replication is built to ensure that VM replication is efficient, that data integrity is maintained and that bandwidth usage and CPU cycles are kept to a minimum.
The solution also supports selective VM replication for instances where not all VM images are considered business-critical. Individual VMs or groups of VMs can be selected for replication. One-to-many replication lets you copy a single VM to multiple targets for either multi-site disaster recovery or automatic VM cloning. Besides business continuity, replication is useful for planned VM migration among sites.
SteelEye High Availability runs within the XenServer Console OS to monitor the health of XenServer VMs and the physical server on which they are running. Using rules defined by the administrator and enforced by SteelEye High Availability, VMs can be automatically moved to stand-by servers within the cluster on detection of a failure condition.
Providing both automated monitoring and recovery of the XenServer VMs and the ability for administrators to manually invoke a VM migration, gives the ultimate combination of protection against failures and full user control.
The XenServer Protection Suite also operates in Linux and Windows guest OSes to monitor and recover individual applications, databases and critical services residing within the virtual machine. LifeKeeper supports physical-to-virtual, virtual-to-virtual and virtual-to-physical failover configurations with a nearly limitless range of more complex configurations possible from these simple building blocks.
