SteelEye Technology Joins MySQL Partner Program

Companies' cooperation will drive marketing efforts for LifeKeeper on MySQL, MAXDB, LAMP and SAP

Mountain View CA - November 4, 2004 - SteelEye Technology® Inc., a leading provider of data and application availability management software for Linux and Windows, today announced it has become an Authorized Partner for MySQL®, the world's most popular open source database. Today, SteelEye's LifeKeeper for Linux is protecting MySQL databases in hundreds of installations worldwide and this product combination has developed a reputation for being a high quality, highly reliable solution to run and protect business-critical data. Through this agreement, SteelEye and MySQL have chosen to formalize this cooperation and will now work more closely together to bring greater knowledge and awareness of their joint solution to the marketplace.

Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama was seeking a high quality and reliable solution to run a variety of their operational systems including mail. After considering a number of alternatives, their technical team determined that a combination of the MySQL database and SteelEye's LifeKeeper high availability clustering solution was the best option. "By utilizing MySQL with LifeKeeper high availability software, we were able to get all the benefits and reliability you look for on Unix systems at a significantly reduced price" said Larry Walls, CIO of Huntsville Hospital. "MySQL and LifeKeeper are a great combination of products; we are happy to see the two companies forming a closer business relationship and believe it will be beneficial for many IT users."

New partnership extends to MaxDB

SteelEye and MySQL will also use this relationship to promote and enhance the protection of MySQL's MaxDB database with SteelEye LifeKeeper. MaxDB, formerly SAPDB, is a product that MySQL recently acquired stewardship of from SAP. With MaxDB, MySQL now has a key strategy to deliver database solutions for the SAP marketplace and to extend this product's reach into new markets.

Through SteelEye's previously-announced partnership with SAP, SteelEye has been delivering high availability protection for this SAP database for a number of years as part of its award-winning LifeKeeper for mySAP solution -- and LifeKeeper is now the leading high availability platform to protect MaxDB today. SteelEye and MySQL plan to leverage this leadership to provide additional marketing for this solution as well.

A History of Success

"We at SteelEye know how important MySQL is to the growing acceptance of Linux in business-critical enterprise deployments," said Jim Fitzgerald, founder and executive vice president of business development for SteelEye. "SteelEye has been successfully selling LifeKeeper to customers who are looking for a high availability solution for MySQL. The time has come for us to strengthen our relationship and work more closely together to further our joint success in the market."

Since SteelEye was founded, LifeKeeper high availability for MySQL has been one of the company's most popular products. MySQL is also a central part of the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl/PHP/Python) initiative that is catching marketplace attention as an Open Source web deployment platform. Along with this effort, SteelEye has announced its LAMP High Availability solution, thus furthering strategic efforts behind MySQL.

"As MySQL's use in critical corporate applications has grown over the last few years, our customers have become increasingly interested in ways to protect their investments further through high-availability management solutions," said Bertrand Matthelie, director of alliances for MySQL AB. "We are very pleased to announce this new partnership, and to work jointly with SteelEye to promote their well-respected LifeKeeper products for both MySQL and MaxDB."
