Business Continuity and Recovery Solutions for Windows
SteelEye Technology delivers business continuity and recovery
solutions for the entire Microsoft solution stack as well as custom or in-house developed applications and
popular third party applications running on the Microsoft Windows Server
platform. As a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, SteelEye is committed
to building and delivering the best in breed business continuity and
recovery software solutions to the Windows market place. SteelEye Protection Suite for Windows is
our award-winning alternative business continuity solution, including data
protection, disaster recovery and high availability for Windows Servers
2003/2008/2008 R2. The SteelEye Protection Suite for Windows supports CDP, allowing users to rewind data in the event of
data corruption.
SteelEye Protection Suite for Windows is the industry’s most comprehensive and scalable solution for eliminating application downtime from either planned or unplanned outages. With integrated data replication and application high availability capabilities, this suite addresses the most stringent uptime requirements, from local data replication and application failover, to complete recovery from a remote site.
Since our founding 1999, SteelEye has deployed our solutions in companies of all sizes and in all geographies to ensure that mission-critical applications are available 24x7x365. As these applications have transformed over the years, SteelEye has evolved as well to include integration with new technology like Active Directory, larger and more complex cluster configurations and protection of the myriad of programs which have developed within the Microsoft ecosystem.
SteelEye high availability monitors the health of all aspects of the application environment including servers, network connections, data volumes and related processes. On detection of any problem recovery action is initiated. This configurable action can include attempting to restart the application on the same server (a local recovery), migrating the application to a back-up server (a failover), or sending an alert to the administrator so that the problem can be investigated. Through an intuitive GUI, administrators can manually move applications among servers to eliminate the need for planned downtime due to maintenance. No longer does applying maintenance upgrades or service packs mean that the application has to be unavailable.
Our technology precludes the requirement that all servers in the cluster be identically configured. The inherent flexibility means that you can deploy the HA cluster topology that makes the most sense for your business. This extends to the use of storage as well. It's easy to build a shared-nothing cluster using our replication technology, or you can deploy a shared-storage cluster using direct attached SCSI or Fibre Channel devices.
The SteelEye Protection Suite is comprised of two main components: SteelEye DataKeeper and LifeKeeper High Availability Clustering software. Whether you need real-time data back-up, high availability protection within a LAN or recovery across a WAN, SteelEye Protection Suites meet the most demanding requirements.
SteelEye DataKeeper
SteelEye's award winning SteelEye DataKeeper enables real-time data replication of all data types, including SQL, Exchange and Hyper-V virtual machines through a simple and intuitive data management GUI. SteelEye DataKeeper can be deployed standalone or as part of the SteelEye Protection Suite for Windows as described below.
Our replication solution is fully featured for the enterprise, yet priced to fit the constrained budgets of even the SMB. Virtualization promises improved business continuity through server portability. One of the most exciting and most talked about benefits of SteelEye DataKeeper is the ability to replicate live running Hyper-V virtual machines across disparate storage arrays. SteelEye DataKeeper delivers on that promise of improved business continuity by allowing administrators to keep mirrored copies of their live running virtual machine either across the room or across the ocean.
SteelEye DataKeeper Cluster Edition
SteelEye DataKeeper Cluster Edition v7.1 is the next generation of the award winning high availability and disaster recovery solution from SteelEye Technology. DataKeeper Cluster Edition v7.1 allows Windows Server 2003 Cluster Services (MSCS) and Windows Server 2008 Failover Clusters (WSFC) to be configured without the need for shared storage or by extending existing shared storage clusters with additional replicated cluster nodes for disaster recovery.
By using SteelEye DataKeeper Cluster Edition in conjunction with Microsoft Failover Cluster Technology, you are able to keep your business critical application data in sync across multiple cluster nodes, eliminating the single point of failure. You are also able to locate cluster nodes in different geographic locations by replicating existing shared storage clusters to remote locations for disaster recovery. Microsoft terms this type of cluster a "multi-site cluster" and describes this solution here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/failover-clustering-main.aspx
To implement a multi-site cluster, Microsoft relies on third party array-and host-based replication solutions to keep the data in sync. SteelEye DataKeeper Cluster Edition is currently the only host-based multi-site cluster solution certified for Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2 and Hyper-V. By implementing SteelEye DataKeeper Cluster Edition administrators are able to build highly available SQL, Exchange, File & Print and Hyper-V clusters at a fraction of the cost of traditional SAN-based clusters while also increasing the availability of their entire solution.
LifeKeeper High Availability Clustering
LifeKeeper High Availability Clustering was the first commercially available clustering solution for the Windows NT platform, even predating Wolfpack, the predecessor to Microsoft Cluster Services (MSCS). LifeKeeper continues to build on its strong tradition of Windows data recovery software by supporting the latest platforms, including Windows 2003, 2003 R2, 2008 and 2008.
Exchange server downtime costs companies around the world millions of dollars a year. Technically-savvy IT organizations work to eliminate or lessen the impact of both planned and unplanned downtime through the implementation of real-time data replication, high availability clustering and disaster recovery solutions.
